One Thing Affects Another-Play Along

On my way home yesterday my wife told me to avoid an area right by our house because there was a huge accident. If you watched the news, you probably saw the accident in Batavia. I could’ve walked there from my house. They had the road shut down from 1:30 until almost 6:00. Two people died because of one driver trying to get in front of a semi. That one bad decision led to such a brutal, unnecessary accident.

I had to get home and rush out real quick because I reserved a batting cage for my son and I to work on some hitting. This would usually take me about 12 minutes to get to the place, but not yesterday. I tried to go the back way to avoid traffic, quickly realizing I wasn’t the only one. The accident caused nasty traffic all over town. When I finally walked in, the guy in charge welcomes us and tells us he expected us at 5:00. I looked confused and said that was my time, not knowing why he said that to me. Then I looked and realized it was 5:15. I am not sure how I wasn’t paying attention to the time, but it took me 35 minutes to get there!!

This got me thinking how one thing can totally affect everything else around it. Here are some examples that come to mind.

-One bad driver can lead to a huge accident!

-One huge accident can affect an entire town’s ability to travel.

-One tough student can affect an entire classroom.

-One unfriendly co-worker can completely change the dynamic of a school.

-One bad partner in a relationship can affect the entire family forever.

-One bad decision can change the course of people’s lives.

-One good decision could forever change someone’s life.

-One wrong thing said could affect how someone views themselves.

-One small gesture can totally change someone’s outlook on their day.

-One positive person entering your life could change your whole outlook.

There are obviously so many more things I could name. There are things, both positive and negative that could not only affect our day, but even our lives. Just puts a lot in perspective.

So true! Have you read the book Because by Mo Willems? Goes with this theme… although in a positive way! The last couple of years for me have been cause and effect!

Accidents are so scary….One missed light could save your life. There’s no rush and no where that important to get to.

So true! Whenever I get cut off, I always think “Do I really need to honk at that driver right now?” and most times I keep on going knowing that it isn’t worth it.
