Bey Blades

These days I can’t keep up with the crazy shows that my son watches.  He will disappear into the guest room and watch shows that I do not understand.  Not sure what happened to Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry.  Now it is Power Rangers, Pokemon, and the new craz, Bey Blades.  He gets so into these shows, and loves to tell all about them.  The problem is, I have no idea what the hell he is talking about.  I just say “oh really?” and “that’s cool.”  I am too old to learn these foreign languages apparently.  I have even tried to sit and watch them with him, but it leaves my head spinning.

Anyway, he has been really into these Bey Blades lately.  They are these spinning top things that battle each other.  They have really crazy names, and each one has its own special powers.  At least that is what he tells me.  We decided since we will be home forever which it seems, we should probably get him some of the actual toys.  I went to the store and found a little section of them.  First you have to get the arena that they spin in, then you have to get the different figures to battle.  I bought four of them, not knowing which is good, bad, powerful, or cool.

When I brought them home, he lit up.  He was so excited to get these, and of course, they had to be played with right away.  That is when the real fun starts.  First you have to figure out how to put these things together.  That wasn’t too difficult.  Then you have to put the pull cord into this holder, then attach the Bey Blade.  That proved to be much more difficult.  I finally figured it out, but since they couldn’t, I had to be the one to do it like a hundred times.  Then the battles began.  You pull the rip cord, and they start spinning around the arena crashing into each other.  Whichever one stops, or breaks apart first, loses.

I may not get it, but he thought it was the best thing in the world.  He would start every battle with “Set…one, two, three…Let it Rip!”  After many battles, and me having to put these back together over and over, it was time for a break tonight.  I see this happening quite a bit over the next few weeks.  It is strange to me, and I have no idea the powers or the point to this show, but he is in love with it.  It is something that he can now use to pass some of these long hours away.  Now it is time to teach him how to lose gracefully, because my Bey Blade will be victorious!

I did get the arena. I foresee a lot more of these things piling up around our house in the near future. They are fun to play but a pain to set up.

  2. Yup! The joys of fads. Those have made a comeback and now they are fancier. Happy you had the time to get to know his world.

I love that you are jumping in to his world! I always believe that is one of the best things we can do for our kids. Yes, we can introduce them to our interests and our world, but we need to be willing to do the same!
    Have fun learning🙂

I miss good ole’ Tom and Jerry! I probably have an arena and the bey blade things in the basement. If I get down there I will have to see if I can send any your way! LOL

Oh my, my students love bey blades and my now 14 year old son loved them many years ago. So fun, and yes, “let er rip!” I remember it fondly. Sounds like you are on your way to being a renowned bey blade champ!
