The game of Life

Anyway who knows me, or even has read my blogs in the last couple of years knows I am not big on staying in on the weekends. I view that as our time to have fun and get out. Whether it is just dinner, or having some fun with friends playing cards and having some drinks. I’m usually down for whatever. I may even crave it sometimes. This weekend however, I was totally content with just hanging with the family. We had a crazy week, and some down time was definitely needed.

We did go out Friday night, but Saturday became a lazy day. We had a lot to do around the house, but it wasn’t happening that day. We hung around during the afternoon, and I was able to nap while the kids did. I love me some naps! After we got dinner (of course I didn’t want to cook), we sat down and played the board game Life with our kids. I bought it earlier that day, and we had a blast playing. It has been years since I have played that game. It didn’t exactly go my way as I lost my job, had two sets of twins, and had a shack for a house. In fact, I came in dead last. My wife, the winner, was the banker so there are some questionable moves that were made. We may need to go back and look at the tape. Either way, it was a lot of fun playing, and we even got through the whole game without them quitting or losing too much of their attention.

Today we had needed to get out for a little bit, so we went to lunch, then met some friends and their daughter at Airtastic for some bouncy house fun. It is really cool seeing how independent they are when they are there. They don’t need us watching over them anymore as they climb tall, steep ladders and slide down the huge slide on the other side. They run from one bouncy house to the next, then back again. I play for like ten minutes and I’m tired. They go non-stop for an hour and get crabby when we have to leave. Oh to have that energy again.

When we got home, the kids went down, and we relaxed for an hour. Then I got to go get a really good workout in at the gym before I made dinner. We had a successful dinner, cleaned the house a little, played a little more, and now we just got them to bed. Time for a blog, a couple shows, then sleep before another busy week of conferences comes our next week. This weekend was just what I needed though. It was a much needed family weekend. For once we got to choose what we wanted to do without the normal hustle and bustle of Life. We got to do Life our own way for once.

Life your own way! Sounds like a great family weekend. Board games, naps, time with friends and time for the kids to play with friends.

    >We got to do Life our own way for once.<

This weekend was NOT that for us. However, it's good read about those who had great weekend, and who were able to do what they needed! Next weekend, nope. The following weekend, maybe! πŸ™‚

Thanks for this busy slice! πŸ™‚

I love reading your slice and having a teensy window into your weekend and world. I played the game of Life with my nieces a few years ago and had such a good laugh because it had been years since I’d played it my kids – a memory making game for sure.
